Nevertheless, Siti Nurhaliza knows her fan niche and that is why she retains her Malay identity and music – which I think is a brilliant move – AND at the same time, she keeps challenging herself with dynamic momentum, trying something new and testing new musical branch – which make the fans truly adore her! Yes, we the “typical Malay” fans see Siti Nurhaliza as someone who already drifted apart from our Middle Class realm as she now wedded to Datuk K with all the socialites’ scenes – who probably don’t even listen to her Malay songs (well, it’s no harm, actually!). I used to be her hardcore fan since I was in secondary school circa 1997 but the fanaticism faded away as she married in 2006 (yeah…hahaha!) BUT she still had me as her fan due to beautiful talent and voice. But on the term of buying albums, I am very selective and Siti Nurhaliza is one of those that I would buy and worth my every cents. Nope, I am not one of those so-called self-professed “atypical Malays” who claim not to listen to Malay songs as they usually snobbishly brand that as “low class” I listen to Malay songs, after all I am from a Middle Class family, just like Siti Nurhaliza growing up in a police barrack so it was all inevitable. Siti Nurhaliza is one of the rare Malay artistes that I would buy the albums. I’ve said it before and I am going to rewrite again.
